They represented themselves as of the Tribe called “the Arraphoes” and wished us to camp with their party on the Platte tonight which was not acceded to we being too far from the river. By signs as far as the Brethren could understand them these 3 men represented that some Emigrant Train was attacked by the Sioux Indians 5 days ago, and they thought our train would be attacked also. The Brethren by signs said we had plenty of rifles, powder, lead and caps. The 3 Indians shook their heads. Camped for the night on the open prairie close to a small muddy pool of water scarcely sufficient for cooking purposes. Poor feed. Cattle chained to the waggons for the night. They have had a long & tedious day’s journey and seem quite exhausted though the roads on the whole have been tolerably good. Prest. Willie notified the Saints that the horn would blow in the morning at rise at 3 so as to start at 4." Levi Savage recorded: Platte hills; Monday 15th Sept 18,56: This fore noon we traveled up the botom on good roads. after noon we commenced to ascend the Bluffs. The ascent was sand; it caused very hard puling. as we arose the sumit three Indians came to us. They were friendly, & Said that the Shians and Soux would kill us all, that they had some five days ago fell upon a large train. What damage was done we did not acertain; and we only have the Indian confirm it at best. At Sundown we camped aroung [sic] a Small Buffalo wallow which had ben reacently been [sic] filed with the reacent rains. We were all much futiegued with our days Journey. We chained the our oxen to the wagon. for there was neither feed nor water, and we had Some fears of the Indians. We Set a Strong guard. about 2 oclock A.M. an alarm was mad. So callous had our feelings become to death, that while eating our bite of supper around the camp fire–and it was not yet sun down, mother requested us to look at Brother Bridge, and see if he was alive. He was only a few feet from our fire, lying on the ground in his robe and some blankets, which we parted, and on looking at his face, saw that his eyes were glazing in death, of which we apprised mother and resumed our supper. Here old John Ollerton died and was buried with Brother Bridge and thirteen others the next morning, so Brother Bleak informed us at the last October conference in this city."

He traveled between Utah and California twice during the decade of his 60s. It appears his last travel to Utah was in 1862 when he was returning from a mission. He was then 75 years old.

Sanderson, Henry Weeks - (27), b. Stafford, New York Tribute by a grandson, posted on familysearch 7/11/2020: My Grandpa Henry My great great grandfather on my mother’s side was Henry Weeks Sanderson. He grew up in Nauvoo and lived two doors down from the Prophet Joseph Smith’s family. Sidney Rigdon lived between them. He used to play ball with the Prophet as a boy and loved him with all his heart. Henry helped work on the Nauvoo Temple. When Henry was 17 years old he signed up with the Mormon Battalion. He ended up going with the sick to Pueblo, Colorado and then helped several wagon trains of pioneers across the plains. When Brigham Young called for rescue parties to go bail out the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies who were starving and freezing to death in an early winter storm, Grandpa Henry was one of the courageous and obedient who responded quickly to the call and rushed to their aid. He eventually died firm in the faith in 1896 in Fairview, Sanpete County, Utah.
